ULI Chicago Selects Director for Preservation Compact

Judy Levey, former executive director for the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky, has been selected to coordinate activities of The Preservation Compact.

In her position as Director of Community Outreach for ULI Chicago, Judy will coordinate the work of The Preservation Compact's six Keystone Initiatives and its Advisory Committee. She will be responsible for helping each Keystone Initiative achieve its goals and expanding the Compact's partnerships, as well as coordinating the Compact's communication strategies.

Mary Vasys, ULI Chicago Executive Committee member, has served as interim coordinator since the Compact was launched in May, 2007.

Judy brings to the position a broad range of experience in housing issues and advocacy. As executive director of the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky, the statewide nonprofit advocacy organization for affordable housing in Kentucky, she led a successful 2006 legislative effort to establish dedicated funding for low-income housing production. In this role, Judy also built a statewide initiative to implement regional plans to end homelessness. Her work included overseeing federally funded housing programs such as HUD technical assistance programs to increase production and preservation of affordable housing in Kentucky.

Prior to the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky, Judy directed energy assistance programs for low-income people for the Community Action Council in Lexington, Kentucky. She also spent six years working for the New York City Department of Social Services in management positions. Judy holds a Masters in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Judy's extensive understanding of federal programs, affordable housing, and low-income households gives her an excellent foundation for work on the Preservation Compact.
